About the SU20 Task Forces

The SU20 Task Forces are the strategic and policy-driving arms of the SU20 Engagement Group an official G20 platform dedicated to mainstreaming the voice, needs, and potential of startups and MSMEs into global policy conversations. These Task Forces are designed to develop bold, actionable, and inclusive policy recommendations that empower entrepreneurs, enhance innovation ecosystems, and foster sustainable development across G20 nations and beyond. Each Task Force brings together a dynamic and diverse coalition of startup founders, investors, incubators, accelerators, policymakers, academics, ecosystem enablers, and civil society leadersall united by a shared vision: to unlock the full potential of entrepreneurship as a driver of equitable economic growth, digital transformation, and climate resilience.

FOUNDATION AND ALLIANCES

This priority area focuses on establishing collaborative ecosystems to support early-stage startups and MSMEs. It emphasizes the creation of accelerators and incubators backed by government, private sector, and non-profits to provide mentorship, funding, and access to resources. Key initiatives include global startup competitions, policy advocacy, entrepreneur education, and digital enablement.

FINANCE & INVESTMENT

This priority area seeks to bridge funding gaps and democratize access to capital for startups and MSMEs, especially in early growth stages. Focus areas include alternative funding models, financial literacy, cross-border financing, inclusive funding mechanisms, and ESG-aligned investment. Targeted funds for women and youth-led enterprises and partnerships with financial institutions are also central.

INCLUSION AND SUSTAINABILITY

This area promotes inclusive entrepreneurship and environmentally sustainable solutions. It encourages startups to design products and services that serve marginalized communities while addressing environmental challenges. Topics include circular economy models, impact investment, green innovation incentives, and support for township and informal economies.

This priority area addresses barriers that limit startups and MSMEs from entering local and global markets. Key elements include facilitating international trade, enabling e-commerce, reforming public procurement systems, and supporting regional integration. Initiatives include startup trade facilitation platforms, e-commerce alliances, and a proposed "Startup Passport" for cross-border operations.

TOWNSHIP & RURAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP

This priority area recognises the unique challenges and opportunities present in townships and rural areas, which are home to a large portion of the countrys informal economy and untapped entrepreneurial potential. It seeks to revitalise these geographies through targeted support and inclusive economic development. Focus areas include strengthening local value chains, improving infrastructure and connectivity, supporting cooperative and community-owned enterprises and promoting access to finance.
